Here's my yearly samosa reminder...but I promise I'm not being the Samosa Police! Hear me out... is the essence of Ramadan really about fasting only to overeating fried foods for 30 days straight? You essentially end up eating more calories this month than any other month...WHILE FASTING.
I most likely underestimated here when it comes to fried food, there are usually also a couple of spring rolls, pakoras and other fried goodies. So by the end of the month, most people have had well over 100 fried items. The excessive amounts of fried foods after a day of fasting are often the reason you are feeling low in energy, thirsty, and unable to be your most productive self in the most blessed month of the year.
Now I'm not telling you to completely cut it out if it's important to your family traditions, but just be a bit more mindful of the fried foods you eat. Do we really need to be breaking samosa-eating records this Ramadan?! If you eat 1 fried item (choose your fave for highest satisfaction) everyday, you will have still had 30 items by the end of the month!

[HOW TO DRINK ENOUGH WATER DURING RAMADAN]

If you're experiencing any symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, cramps, low energy while fasting....it may be because you haven't been drinking enough water since Ramadan started!
The truth is, you should be drinking the same amount of water in a fasting day as you would on a regular, non-fasting day. It may sound challenging to some, but it just requires a bit of planning!
In the infographic, you can see exactly how to spread out your water intake. All of a sudden, it feels a lot more doable! You can save this and have a peek so you don't forget. I also feel like sometimes the days blend into each other,especially if you're staying up late, so breaking it up helps make sure that each day you're drinking enough water.
Three things to remember:
1. Each individuals water requirements differ. Breastfeeding mamas in particular should be drinking more water. Body size and age also impacts how much your body needs.
2. Avoid sugary drinks and try to stick to water, lemon water, and herbal teas.
3. Eat high-water content fruits and veggies like cucumber, watermelon, berries, etc to help with your hydration goals.

[PHOTO DUMP] Over 10 years ago, I was doing my bachelors in Nutrition at what was then Ryerson University (@torontomet), and to be honest, there were very few people in the field that looked like me. While I was studying nutrition, I felt there was a huge cultural gap…I was learning about all things nutrition but the food looked nothing like what I ate at home.
It was then I knew I wanted to not only help people transform the way they eat, but make sure they don’t have to give up their cultural food. It was such an honour to come back to that same University and speak about having a healthy Ramadan with @strongerwithbelal - my partner in many aspects (business partner, co-author of our Ramadan book, and oh ya, husband too!)

HUNGRY WHILE BREASTFEEDING? HERES WHAT I DID TO STAY FULL + LOSE WEIGHT!
The 2 things I did to help me lose 40lbs of my baby weight!
CHOCOLATE OAT BARS RECIPE BELOW 👇🏽
1/2 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup maple syrup
1 cup almond butter
Heat this mixture over a saucepan
In a large mixing bowl mix together:
2 cups oats
1/2 cup pumpkin seeds
1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts
1 cup dark chocolate chips
2 Tbsp shredded coconut
1/4 cup ground flaxseed
Pour liquid mixture and mix.
Spread in a square pan lined with parchment.
Refrigerate for 3-4 hours or until firm.
Cut into small squares and enjoy! Keep refrigerated to keep the firm texture.
