Man I miss the gym. They're still not open in my area, Insha'Allah soon.

But let's focus on what we can control. The blessed month of Ramadan is around corner, so we need to start preparing now.

One of the best ways to prepare for Ramadan is to fast in the month leading up to it. Monday and Thursdays are a good place to start to fast and you get to follow a Sunnah.

With most of us not going in to work it also makes it easier to fast. Social distancing can actually help make your optional fasts easier as you have less running around to do.

Fasting the month leading up to Ramadan is also great way to help you understand what will work in Ramadan. You get to try different suhoor options and see how your energy levels are throughout the day.

Your energy levels won't be high the first few fasts, but will adapt fairly quickly. So if you start preparing now, you will get a head start once Ramadan begins.

Also, don't forget to get your copy of the first ever print edition of The Healthy Ramadan Guide. There's tons of suhoor, iftar and snack recipes and ideas in it. With full nutritional information as well, so you know exactly what you're getting.

*Power Up with this Sunnah Superfood!* [SAVE TO REMEMBER BENEFITS]

Dates are a staple during Ramadan because it is a sunnah food. It's no surprise because there are so many health benefits! Dates are a good source of antioxidants, fibre, potassium magnesium, and iron. This perfect balance of nutrients helps with digestive issues, managing blood sugar levels, promotes brain health, and reduce your risk of developing chronic diseases.

This is exactly why dates are a superfood and should be enjoyed year round!
One of my favourite ways to enjoy dates is by stuffing them. Stuffed Dates are perfect for iftar gatherings or for Ramadan treat boxes to share with friends and family.

I'll be sharing 4 different yummy stuffed date recipes in The Healthy Ramadan Guide (you can order at the link in bio)! What's your favourite way to stuff dates?

Will the Ramadan Meal Plan work for you?

One of the most common questions I have received is if the meal plan will work for them. And the answer is yes yes yes!

I have not only provided recommendations for modifications but also made it a balanced meal plan so it can work for many different needs!

This includes fasting while meeting needs for weight loss, weight gain, diabetes, breastfeeding. There are also icons for recipes that are vegetarian, dairy-free, or gluten-free.
I've included the nutrient information for every single recipe as well (protein, carbs, fibre, fat, and calories). And most importantly - they've been taste tested to be family friendly and delicious inshallah.
There will also be a Facebook support group so if you need help making swaps, we will be able to support you.

Check out my stories for how people from all over the world have benefited from the book this past year.

The Healthy Ramadan Guide

The only print edition, to help you have the healthiest and best Ramadan yet.

We launched our book last year and alhumdulillah it went to over 30 countries. Despite the pandemic the response was absolutely amazing.

One of my favourite aspects of this book is that it takes away all the guess work and it's easy to follow.

This book will provide you with all the recipes you need. They are both healthy and delicious. With a full meal plan, schedule and pantry list. How to manage diabetes and other hurdles we face. Along with all the benefits of fasting as well.

There is also a full workout program for both with equipment and free weights. A daily mobility routine with pictures, all the exercises have sets, reps and variations as well. A full cardio section as well and what time is best to workout.

There is a lot of detail and almost any question you can ask is answered in the book.

There are 3 types of people when it comes to Suhoor:
1. Skip suhoor because it's too hard to wake up in the middle of the night.
2. Have cereal for Suhoor because it's the easiest thing.
3. Have a big dinner type meal (i.e. roti and curry etc).

Which one are you? (Let me know in the comments below - for many years I was #3 🍛) The problem is, most of the time these options don't optimally help your fast. The result is low energy levels, headaches, and hunger.
One of the recipes I have been perfecting over the years are Overnight Oats for Suhoor. This is not just pouring milk over oats, but the perfect combination of ingredients to help you feel fuller and keep you more energized throughout the day. I kept going back and forth with the nutritionals to make sure it is truly balanced.

If you prefer more savoury types of suhoors, I've got you covered too!

Get these suhoor recipes and more in the first print edition of The Healthy Ramadan Guide. Check out an indepth look in my stories + order now for free shipping across North America.

T-Bar Rows

A popular exercise, but often done incorrectly. Like most exercises, people try to go to heavy and don't focus on their form or the muscles that should be worked.

T-Bar rows work basically the entire back from your lats, mid traps, romboids, rear delts, lower back muscles and even your glutes, hamstrings and your core.

Since it involves multiple muscle groups, it is a great exercise to save time and hit various muscles at once.

The problem is that most people try to cheat. They try to go to heavy, they round their back, they don't pull the weight far enough, they jerk their entire body and more...

Rather your form will determine how effective the exercise will be. So you can try to look cool and add alot of weight, but you'll actually be doing less good and more harm.

I always like to start with by lifting the weight straight up. This will force you to keep your back straight, brace your core and engage your glutes and hamstrings. Those three parts are what will keep you safe. Then bend forward and focus on keeping your back straight and never rounded.

Even when I pull I focus on bracing my core and keeping my legs strong and planted on the floor. Then focusing on the muscles that are supposed to be targeted. Drive back with the elbows so you don't shrug. Keep your chest up and shoulders down.

Get a light pause at top to really contract the back muscles. Remember your form will determine how beneficial your workout actually is.

To make it harder, rather then adding weight slow down the lowering part (eccentric). This will really make you work harder and get even more results all while keeping you safe.

There are lots of misconception that exist regarding weight loss. Here I focus on these three because of how common they are.

Believe it or not you can actually enjoy your food and still lose weight. You don't need to go on some crazy detox or feel miserable just to lose weight.

The key is calorie deficit. So as long as you lower your daily caloric intake, you will lose weight. But that doesn't mean you ignore your veggies and other healthy options because your health is still key.

You also don't need to workout everyday or multiple times in a day. If your schedule allows you to workout more then 3 or 4 times, then awesome go for it. But most people can't fit that many in to their schedule and that's ok. 3 workouts of 45mins to hour is sufficient to see results.

And last but never least, stop avoiding your cultural foods. Yes, there are some foods you should limit to cheat meals or special occasions. However, rice and bread is not one of them. Most of our cultures are built on food, so you won't last long is you continue to vilify entire food groups.

You can eat carbohydrates and lose weight. Research upon research has shown it time and time again. Also, our clients are living proof as well. Heck so am I... I love rice and eat it everyday.

Imagine being able to enjoy yourself and still lose weight... Mind blowing eh...

What's another misconception you've heard in the past that isn't true?

The difference, the latter may involve a devastating situation no one's wants to be in.

For example the amount of people that get diabetes simply because of their habits.

It's to a point where it's become an epidemic for kids. Kids are developing type 2 diabetes because of their lack of activity and nutritious food. Now that's not the child's fault. It's the environment you develop at home.

It's why it's so important to take care of your health and fitness. Your kids are watching and following. But regardless of kids, why put yourself in a situation where you become dependent on medication.

Start now and make it a lifestyle.

You don't need to be in the gym 5 or 6 times a week at the gym. 3x a week or even 2 can make a huge difference. And eating healthy isn't tough, just stop looking for short cuts.

Add more veggies to your food and eat smaller portions. The fiber from the veggies will make you feel full.

With Ramadan around the corner, @nutritionbynaz and I launched The Ramadan Preparation Program.

The program begins a month before Ramadan and is geared toward helping you have your most energized Ramadan yet. Plus, you also get a copy of The Healthy Ramadan Guide! This book has helped over 1000 people transform the way they fast.

We'll be going live later on today to share more details about the program and the importance of preparing for Ramadan.

I recommend having flaxseed as a staple in your kitchen as it can be very challenging to get enough omega 3s in your diet. However, what most people don't know is that consuming whole flaxseed isn't going to give you ALL of the health benefits. The reason for this is because their shell is quite tough and they're small seeds, so they pass through your digestive system without giving your body the benefit!

So instead, you want to consume freshly ground flaxseed or a high quality flaxseed oil. @ActivationProducts Perfect Press oils have 100% potency and retains 100% of the benefits from flaxseed that you would miss by only eating the seed.

Not only does flaxseed contain omega 3s, but also fibre, zinc, magnesium, selenium and more!

Regular consumption of flax along with a balanced diet can help with improving your heart health, supporting your digestive system, and help with skin, hair, and joint health.

I like to include flaxseed oil in my smoothies by mixing in a teaspoon.

I want to give 25 of you the opportunity to try out @activationproducts flaxseed oil for yourself! Here's how to enter this giveaway:

Throwback to last year when we were ready to launch The Healthy Ramadan Guide and then a pandemic hit.

I still remember the stress both @nutritionbynaz and I went through and the unknown that existed at that time. From shipping issues, to packaging, to the book itself even being able to print.

That's right, because the pandemic closed almost every company, we were at risk of not even being able to print the book at all.

But alhumdulillah through Allah's help everything worked out and people from over 34 countries purchased a booked. From Japan, Malaysia, Germany the book went to many different cultures and yet the feedback was so glowing.

We were absolutely humbled by the outpouring support towards the very first print edition. The only book of its kind that tackles fasting, nutrition and fitness all in one.

So to add even more to the book, this year we want to provide more than just the book. We want to help you before Ramadan even begins. To help you get on track and be consistent before the blessed month so you can hit the ground running on the first day of Ramadan Insha'Allah.

Tomorrow (Feb 23) we will share how you can join the Ramadan Preparation Program and receive a free copy of the book!

If you did get one last year, let us know how you liked it. 🙂

Just because it’s the weekend, doesn’t mean calories don’t count. You can undo all your hardwork in just a few days.

You need a plan, one that will allow you to enjoy your weekend and stay on track. Generally you will have an idea of how your weekend will look. If you are going to your family's house, if you plan to order out, or it’s when you like to kick back and watch a movie with something to eat.

Plan according to what is happening that weekend. Do not leave it to chance. Leaving to chance is almost always guaranteed to backfire and then you'll feel guilty and regret whatever you ate.

Now if you’re going to regret something, then why do it?

Look at your weekend, if you know Saturday is the day something will come up then stay on track on Friday. Then figure out what time on Saturday you will be eating something unhealthy. Whatever it may be, you don’t want to feel guilt, you want to enjoy it, so enjoy it guilt free.

So if you know it’s Saturday evening, then have a breakfast with protein, veggies and light carbs, try to get in a workout soon after, have a shake (or a protein and veggies meal only) and then don’t eat anything until the “cheat meal” comes up.

This way you stay well below your caloric intake for the day and you won’t feel guilty.

And now just imagine being able to enjoy eating whatever you want with absolutely no
guilt and enjoying it even after you ate it. It’s a good feeling! 😉

So how are you planning this weekend?
