Break it down and stop complicating it. 3 workout days isn't the entire 3 days. It's just 1 hour per each workout day. That's it...

Now this doesn't mean you sit around the rest of the week and do nothing. You still need to add cardio a few times a week. But again, it doesn't need to be complicated. It can be anything from hiking, walking, jogging, biking or even playing sports.

The goal is to raise your level physical activity. Keep it simple and enjoy the process.

It won't consume your week or even change your schedule much. You can even start with 45 minutes at each workout. Just start and keep it simple.

If you need help with accountability, @nutritionbynaz and I always here to help.

It is a known fact that children have 2 stomaches - a limited size one for their meals and a mega-expandable one for snacks 😂.

It can be pretty frustrating to have kids barely finish their meals but ask for snacks all day!

However, snacks when done right can be a great way to fuel your little ones.

Here are some guidelines to help you as the parent take ownership of snacking:

1. Have set meal and snack times. For example, they cannot snack 20 minutes after their main meal. Atleast 1.5-2 hours works well for most kids. When kids get used to this timing, they are more likely to finish their meal plates.
2. Differentiate between snack foods and treat foods. This doesn't mean you should label unhealthy items as "bad" or junk food. Instead, teach your kids about foods that will help them grow and become strong vs treat or sometimes foods.
3. Re-evaluate what is in your pantry. This often an easy to reach area for kids and packed with not the healthiest options. If it's in your home, you and your kids will likely eat it!
4. Have a designated day for treat foods. We usually do jummah treats and they have a treat with their grandparents too.
5. Don't police your child's food. If it's available at home and they are eating it, you should avoid using negative words to get them to eat less of these foods. Instead, you need to adjust what is available (i.e. healthier options and using more positive language).

The goal is to have a nourished child who has a positive relationship with food.

What are some things you do to help your child make healthier snack choices? What are your struggles when it comes to your kids' snack times?

The difference, the latter may involve a devastating situation no one's wants to be in.

For example, the amount of people that get diabetes simply because of their habits.

It's to a point where it's become an epidemic for kids. Kids are developing type 2 diabetes because of their lack of activity and nutritious food. Now that's not the child's fault. It's the environment you develop at home.

It's why it's so important to take care of your health and fitness. Your kids are watching and following. But regardless of kids, why put yourself in a situation where you become dependent on medication.

Start now and make it a lifestyle.

You don't need to be in the gym 5 or 6 times a week at the gym. 3x a week or even 2 can make a huge difference. And eating healthy isn't tough, just stop looking for short cuts.

Add more veggies to your food and eat smaller portions. The fiber from the veggies will make you feel fuller. Increase your protein and make sure to limit snacks.

They key will always be having a good system in place, so make sure to take some time out to plan it out.

If you need the right system to help you get results, DM me or @nutritionbynaz and we can over on how we can help.

There's no secret food that will magically get you results.

The secret ingredient to losing weight is lowering your daily caloric intake. The secret to building muscle is increasing your protein intake and strength training.

It really is that simple. You'll find lots of fancy marketing out there geared towards wanting to confuse you. But always remember, if a specific food or even a supplement for that matter, is promising to burn fat, they have lied and you should run from them.

The key is creating the right habits and understanding how to eat. Not adding some magical ingredient or eliminating an entire food group.

That's how @nutritionbynaz and I work with our clients at getting them long term results. Because we don't just help them achieve their goals, but rather show them how to make it into a lifestyle without feeling like your missing out on life.

If you want to sign up for a call, DM or @nutritionbynaz to see if we'd be a good fit for one another.

Introducing our Mermaid themed cake!

This year's cake request from my 6 year old was to do a *Mermaid* theme. I actually had a blast making the cake with Khadijah and her 3.5 year old sister because they were so helpful! They made all the fondant creatures and were so patient over the 2 days it took us to make it! Check out my stories to see the step by step process.

I hope through these cake making experience my girls build precious memories, learn the value of hard work and enjoying the outcome, and also develop a positive relationship with food.

You would think after making this cake they would be devouring it but instead they ate a slice ( + some fondant decals) and then thought about everyone else they could share their pretty cake with. And that's what you call balance ❤.

"How do I lose my gut" is probably the most popular question I get.

Well, unfortunately there's no one exercise that will make your gut disappear. But that doesn't mean it won't, you just need to understand the process.

Lower your caloric intake, meaning eat a little less and workout consistently.

As you are consistent, your bodyfat will decrease and so will your gut over time.

What's allowed us to be successful with all of our members is that we can relate.

We understand the struggles, we understand the culture and most importantly, we understand how to get our members results without giving up their cultural foods and having to do any extreme workouts.

The vast majority of programs are very westernized with western foods and mindset. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but we have our own culture and our own way of eating. We shouldn't have to give that up, it just needs to be tweaked.

Muslims come from all walks of life and we do our best to serve each culture in the best possible way. Nutrition, fitness, coaching and accountability all packed in to one easy system to follow.

So if you want lose weight, get stronger and overall build a healthier lifestyle, DM me or @nutritionbynaz and we would love to talk.

Lateral sled pulls

You don't need to jump on a treadmill to do conditioning. You can also get stronger from your conditioning exercise.

Here's one way to accomplish both.

Not only does it train the lateral movement but it gets you away from the usual one plane of movement we all seem to be stuck in. Majority of the exercises people do are forward and back. Rarely do we incorporate side movements and or change of direction.

Whether it be for sports or everyday life, adding in different planes of movement is critical in becoming stronger.

This exercise will help strengthen your core. You will really feel the pull in your obliques. Your shoulders will be forced to really brace into position as if they are about to take impact. And it helps strengthen your abductors as well (groin). You don't need a lot of weight. Try it without any weight first and then add accordingly.

The only change I would add to this would be to straighten my arms a little more. So it become almost like a moving paloff press.

Try it and let me know how your core feels afterwards!

T-Bar Rows

A popular exercise, but often done incorrectly. Like most exercises, people try to go to heavy and don't focus on their form or the muscles that should be worked.

T-Bar rows work basically the entire back from your lats, mid traps, romboids, rear delts, lower back muscles and even your glutes, hamstrings and your core.

Since it involves multiple muscle groups, it is a great exercise to save time and hit various muscles at once.

The problem is that most people try to cheat. They try to go to heavy, they round their back, they don't pull the weight far enough, they jerk their entire body and more...

Rather your form will determine how effective the exercise will be. So you can try to look cool and add alot of weight, but you'll actually be doing less good and more harm.

I always like to start with by lifting the weight straight up. This will force you to keep your back straight, brace your core and engage your glutes and hamstrings. Those three parts are what will keep you safe. Then bend forward and focus on keeping your back straight and never rounded.

Even when I pull I focus on bracing my core and keeping my legs strong and planted on the floor. Then focusing on the muscles that are supposed to be targeted. Drive back with the elbows so you don't shrug. Keep your chest up and shoulders down.

Get a light pause at top to really contract the back muscles. Remember your form will determine how beneficial your workout actually is.

To make it harder, rather then adding weight slow down the lowering part (eccentric). This will really make you work harder and get even more results all while keeping you safe.

The number one reason people don't see results is the lack of consistency.

And I'm not talking about being consistent for a few days or even weeks. But rather being consistent for months and years.

In order to be consistent, you'll need a schedule and something to keep you accountable. Whether that is a coach or program, you need something to keep you on track.

Consistency will also be the key to results. The greatest program in the world will do nothing without being consistent in the program.

What helps you stay accountable? Or are you looking for something?

I often hear women, specifically moms, telling me they just can't fit a workout into their busy schedule. The problem is, we often associate working out with *weight loss* and when you've had a busy day and your kids have depleted your energy, working out (or rather losing weight) feels like the easy one to push to another day.

The reality is, exercise has so many more benefits than just weight loss. In fact, you'll hear people say they've been working out for months without seeing any results. So if you're working out solely for weight loss, there's likely a missing piece. (Hint: it's not just about working out, it's about what you eat too).

But does that mean you should just forget about working out? Absolutely not! Working out will give you a much needed boost of energy, helps manage your mental health, and relieve a lot of those aches and pains.

Now the key is to shift your mindset. When you look at working out as an investment, as a non-negotiable in your day, you learn to enjoy it. It's no longer something you dread or something you consistently put it off.

So make your why about working out deeper and trust me, you'll never regret time spent working out!

What is your plan for getting active this week?

Power Shrugs From Hang Position

Time to build those traps. Instead of just isolating, make it a little more functional. Adding the explosive component will help you build a lot more strength.

The great thing about this exercise is that it gives you massive traps. But also makes you a lot more explosive and can help get you stronger for other lifts as well for sports.

This variation of shurgs will help build your grip strength, abs, glutes, hamstrings and even your lats. And of course targeting your traps both upper and mid.

When you start, start at the top position and have a strong brace. Once you feel strong at the top, start to bend keeping your back straight and your glutes pushing back. Make sure you back doesn't round. You should feel the stretch in your hamstrings.

Once you get just below the knee, squeeze your core and explode from the hips coming forward (think hip thrust). As you start to straighten out, go right in to a shrug. Focus on your shoulders going up. But don't round your shoulders forward. Try to keep your chest up throughout.

As the bar comes down squeeze your glutes and abs to take the pressure from the weight coming down and away from your back.

Power shrugs from the hang position will really transfer over to sports as well.

Give it a try and let me know how it goes.
