Being a father of three requires a lot of work and time. And it's a blessing I do not take lightly.

I've always thought of parenting as a trust. Something that requires you to continue to work on yourself to help guide children in the right direction.

Kids will do as they see. If they see you say no to certain foods, they will also be picky. If they see you be miserable about being active, they will also follow suit. Leading by example is by far one of the most powerful tools.

The vast majority of parents that I know who have kids that enjoy working out. It's because the parents played a huge role of leading by example. Whether it's by playing sports or working out, showing kids that being active is just apart of life will go a long way.

I understand how hard it is to find time. Having three kids myself, I appreciate that. However, prioritizing your time and scheduling will play a significant role. If you sit every night watching Netflix, you can't say you don't have time to workout.

You also don't need a lot of time, even as little as 3 hours in a week to start can play a huge role.

I love paneer! If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a cheese that doesn’t melt (kind of the texture of firm tofu but better). One of my fave quick vegetarian meals is this paneer jalfrezi. To make it you need:
1 package paneer
1 small onion
1 tomato
1 tsp salt
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tsp ground coriander
2 bell peppers
1/2 cup water

The key to eating healthy while enjoying your cultural foods is your portion size! I have this curry with some bread or roti and a side salad for a balanced meal. Let me know if you try it out!

This year my oldest turns 7, which is when Islamically you should start to encourage your children to pray salah. How I meal prep for the week!

I’m doing a full Sunday meal prep after a very long time, so it did take me a bit longer than I’m used to…but I’m SO glad I got this done! We started off this week going from 2 to 3 sick kids, so it’s helpful to have healthy meals on hand. As much as I want to stress eat, I won’t because I have a fridge full of food!

Here’s what I made:
Steak stir fry
Peri peri salmon
Paneer pepper curry (I guess you could call it a jalfrezi)
Pickled mangos
Beet slaw
Tomato salad
Yellow rice

And yes, I will share the recipes of most of these dishes iA!

It’s been a minute…and I gotta be honest…the mental load of motherhood and adjusting to 3 kids has been a challenge for me in the past little while. I’ll have great weeks where I feel balanced and then weeks where I just feel like I’m everything to everyone else and forgetting myself in the process. Today was a particularly challenging day because 2/3 kids were sick…so I messaged Belal and let him know I was going to go for a bike ride. That’s step 1 - letting your support people know what you need, when you need it. I sent that message because I needed that added accountability and wouldn’t have done it otherwise. The thing is, I haven’t gone on a solo bike ride in over 2 years! So by the time he came home I was ready to make an excuse on why the kids needed me and why I couldn’t leave. But since I sent that message, Belal knew I needed to leave so with his encouragement, I headed out. It may seem like something small, but that 30 minute solo bike ride of being able to HEAR MY OWN THOUGHTS was so needed. It gave me the clarity I needed and reminded me that although it will take time for my to find myself again, I will get there inshaAllah ❤️.

So that’s where I’m at, I’m hoping to be back into the swing of things soon iA, just wanted to give you all an update!

There is so much fear around traveling with kids - and after finally doing it earlier this month, I can say that it was honestly such an amazing experience alhumdulilah! Yes we had to slow things down a bit to meet our kids’ needs, but to have these new experiences with our kids by our sides was so special.

I find there is so much emphasis on social media when it comes to the challenging side of children. It’s not always easy, but it can definitely be beautiful ❤️.

Our first stop in Banff had to be Lake Louise! As I looked far off into the distance looking for the blue water, Belal says, it’s right in front of us…FROZEN! We were so surprised to find a massive lake frozen in May. We decided to ditch the originally planned hike around the lake and walk directly onto it! Sure, we didn’t get our blue water pic, but how many people can say they walked *on* Lake Louise!

There are many different variations of rows and attachments. They are all great, but making sure your form is in place is key to making sure the exercise is effective.

I'm using a close grip row which doesn't have the greatest range of motion, but I really like it.

As you can see in the beginning I'm really shrugging my shoulders. This will put all the pressure on the traps and not target the back muscles correctly. Before you begin you need to set your shoulders. So shoulders down and back, think big chest and a light brace in your core.

Now pull back from your elbows and not your hands. Almost like you are trying to elbow someone behind you. This will allow your back to work better taking the pressure away from your arms.

Whenever doing any back exercise, always think driving back from the elbows.

Side lateral raises are great for building up the medial delts in the shoulders.

However, they are often done wrong and rushed through.

The set up:

I always like to start with the feet to assure a strong position which allows you to have a good brace in your core. It's a good habit to build for every exercise.

Now set your shoulders by having them back and down.

Slightly lean forward.

Arms slightly bent and forward as well. So you're not going straight out to the side, but are actually going forward just a little.

Remember, this is a single joint exercise and NOT meant to be something to go heavy on. Control the weight and feel the burn in your delts. Don't worry about going heavy, this is not the exercise to do that in.

Try this and let me know the difference.

We don’t use the words “junk food” nor do we make anyone feel bad about their food choices. Officially 8 months postpartum today and I’m making a commitment to myself.

I’m committing to finding the strongest version of myself.
I’m committing to being the happiest version of myself.
I’m committing to being the most comfortable version of myself.
I’m committing to finding the new me so that I can be the best me for my children.

And this is not to say that I don’t have weight loss goals, they just aren’t the main motivation. When you find a deeper “why”, you’re more likely to stick to it. It isn’t about the number on the scale, but about how I feel.

I contemplated on posting this because where I’m at right now isn’t my ideal self but I do want to share this journey with you all as I find my new self. Getting out of the house today for my first run felt so overwhelming…I didn’t even know what to wear so put on my husband’s tshirt 🤷🏻‍♀️.
